An external power supply unit is something that you don't see every day. So what is the use of a power supply that sits outside the case? Doesn't an internal power supply make more sense? In most instances it does, but being outside the case has its advantages. For one, it doesn't occupy space inside the case like internal power supplies. This is fantastic, especially with compact mid-tower cases. Internal power also increases case temperatures but not so with external power supplies.
